Lawmakers Prod US Navy to Launch New Stealth Fighter Program

House lawmakers are “dismayed” at the Pentagon for delaying the Navy’s next-generation fighter aircraft to replace Boeing Co‘s Super Hornets, according to a draft funding report.

The draft report for the fiscal 2026 defense spending bill was obtained by Bloomberg Government. Read the documents here and here.

Boeing and Northrop Grumman Corp are competing to build the Navy’s next fighter — now known as F/A-XX. Bloomberg News reported the Pentagon, however, recently asked Congress to shift $500 million meant for the Navy’s new stealth fighter to the F-47, which was awarded to Boeing in March.
