Lawmakers’ Statewide Slump Shows Risk of Running From Washington

It’s been a tough election year so far for House members seeking statewide office.

South Carolina Republicans Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman both lost a primary for governor Tuesday. Last week, Reps. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) and Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) failed in their bids for governor. The week before that, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) fell in a GOP runoff for state attorney general. House Democrats are zero for three in Senate primaries.

However, House members’ losing spell in statewide primaries probably will end next week, when as many as three House Republicans could win Senate nominations.
