Rep. Marcy Kaptur defied historic trends and a tougher new district to defeat an election denier and win a 21st term Tuesday.

Kaptur (D-Ohio) is the longest-serving woman in the history of the House and a senior appropriator. She defeated Republican J.R. Majewski, an Air Force veteran and conspiracy theorist who was at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Kaptur’s re-election means she’ll likely stay as the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Energy and Water Subcommittee, a key panel driving federal funds to the country’s energy and public works programs.
