Georgia’s Loudermilk Joins Growing Wave of House Retirements (1)

Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk will retire after more than a decade in the House, he announced Wednesday, adding to the growing wave of lawmakers heading for the exits before 2027.

The Georgia congressman, 62, serves on the Financial Services Committee’s oversight and financial institutions panels. He was first elected in 2014 and was originally a member of the hard-right Freedom Caucus, but more recently has been seen as an ally of GOP leadership. He leads House Republicans’ committee to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, a response to Democrats’ initial investigation that was critical of President Donald Trump.
