Maryland Map Targets State’s Only Republican in Congress (1)

A proposed redraw of Maryland’s congressional districts promoted by House Democrats’ campaign arm targets the state’s lone Republican in Congress but faces legislative and legal hurdles to becoming law.

Democratic Gov. Wes Moore’s Redistricting Advisory Commission is recommending the Democratic-majority legislature enact new lines favoring their party in all eight districts, imperiling Rep. Andy Harris (R), the House Freedom Caucus Chair who represents a Republican-leaning district that includes Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The map would add parts of Anne Arundel and Howard counties to Harris’ 1st District while excising Republican-leaning Harford County northeast of Baltimore.
