Companies operating in Maryland would have to limit the data they collect on consumers and provide other privacy rights under a measure the legislature passed Saturday.
Privacy advocates say the Maryland Online Data Privacy Act (SB 541) would do more to protect residents than most state comprehensive privacy laws with a new approach to minimize the personal data a company holds from the outset. The Maryland measure, if signed into law by Gov. Wes Moore (D), would join similar laws in 16 other states.
