McMaster Calls South Carolina Lawmakers Back for Redistricting

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) called lawmakers back to Columbia for a special session on congressional redistricting, reopening a Republican push to redraw the state’s map before the 2026 midterms.

The special session, which will begin on Friday, comes after Senate Republicans this week failed to secure the two-thirds support needed to keep the legislature in session for a possible redraw effort following the US Supreme Court’s recent decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which weakened key Voting Rights Act protections and reignited redistricting fights across the South.
