House GOP leadership is making a full-court press to bring conservatives in line with the Senate-passed tax megabill as the conference publicly splinters.
Dissidents — including members of the House Freedom Caucus — have slammed the Senate for “jamming” them with a party-line budget reconciliation bill that adds to the national deficit. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) conceded Tuesday afternoon the Senate amended an earlier House bill more than “many of us would have preferred,” but then spent the next several hours trying to coax his angry conference into swallowing the legislation.
