Meta, TikTok Fuel Advocacy As Lobbies Eye New Tax, Trade Fights

Meta Platforms Inc. and TikTok parent company ByteDance spent record sums on federal lobbying last year, as the tech industry is now stepping up its outreach to the Trump administration and GOP Congress.

Meta, the parent company of social media site Facebook, disclosed its biggest year yet in 2024 with $24.4 million in federal lobbying expenses, according to new disclosures due overnight.

Meta disclosed lobbying on children’s online privacy legislation, which lawmakers did not enact last Congress. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was among many tech industry leaders who attended President Donald Trump’s inaugural events in recent days.
