Ending the shutdown is just one item on Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) stack of priorities when lawmakers return to Washington today after their prolonged recess.

First, he’ll need to seat Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.), whose long-delayed swearing-in led to Arizona’s attorney general suing the House. Grijalva will be the 218th signature on Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) discharge petition, allowing the GOP gadfly to force a vote on releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Rules Ranking Member Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said the bipartisan Epstein discharge petition will force a vote by early December.
