He won a competitive primary last year against a former governor and two sitting House members to replace Roy Blunt, a longtime pillar of the GOP establishment. Winning the party’s nomination made him a shoo-in last November against Trudy Busch Valentine (D), an heiress of the Anheuser-Busch beer company.
