Missouri Votes to Establish New Reproductive Rights Protections

Missouri voters enshrined reproductive rights into the state’s constitution, the Associated Press reported Tuesday, a major win for Democrats and abortion access advocates in a state that currently bans the procedure.

The proposition (Amendment 3) prohibits the government from denying or interfering with “a person’s fundamental right to reproductive freedom,” or the “right to make and carry out decisions about all matters relating to reproductive health care,” including “abortion care.” Under the measure, the state government may enact regulations on abortion after fetal viability, or roughly 24 weeks of pregnancy, as long as it doesn’t interfere with a ...
