Money, Connections Propel Barr in House Financial Services Race

Kentucky Republican Andy Barr has the edge in the battle to lead the Financial Services Committee next Congress, given his ties to leadership and fundraising.

Still, the race is tight between Barr and French Hill (R-Ark.), with Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) and Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) also contenders. All four will meet today with the GOP Steering Committee when its 33 members select the next chairman of the House panel that regulates Wall Street. The winner, who’s expected to later be backed by the full conference, would replace current Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), who departs Congress in January.
