Cherfilus-McCormick Fraud Allegations Mostly Proven by Panel (1)

More than two-dozen alleged House violations by Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick have been proven, the House Ethics Committee said this morning, boosting the odds of serious punishment and possibly even expulsion against the Florida Democrat.

The panel held a rare public hearing to investigate alleged violations of campaign finance rules, among other counts, Thursday afternoon. In a statement Friday, the Ethics Committee said members of the assigned adjudicatory subcommittee deliberated “well past midnight” and decided 25 of the 27 counts against Cherfilus-McCormick were proven with “clear and convincing evidence.”
