New Debt Limit Deadline Hits as GOP Pushes to Enact Trump Agenda

Republican lawmakers already wrestling with the calendar as they fight to deliver on President Donald Trump’s promises now have a major new date to pencil in.

The Congressional Budget Office projected Wednesday the federal government could run out of money to pay its obligations as soon as August if lawmakers don’t act to raise or suspend the debt ceiling.

“If the debt limit remains unchanged, the government’s ability to borrow using extraordinary measures will probably be exhausted in August or September 2025,” the CBO said in a statement.
