New Jersey Democrats Sprint to Succeed Sherrill in Congress

A packed Democratic candidate field is blitzing for the New Jersey congressional district Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill will soon vacate after winning the Nov. 4 election for governor.

A special party primary — the election to watch in Sherrill’s politically blue-leaning 11th District in north-central New Jersey — could be held as soon as late January or early February. Sherrill said Nov. 12 she’ll submit a resignation letter next week, without specifying a departure date. State law allows Gov.
