New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a sixth budget extension as a deal with state lawmakers on changes to criminal discovery laws crucial to completing a final spending plan hangs in the balance.

The measure, approved Thursday, will fund state government through April 22. Hochul is negotiating a budget likely to exceed $252 billion, and is expected to include a litany of policy proposals affecting taxes, transit, tech, and other areas.

Hochul has held up the budget process past an April 1 deadline while publicly pressuring members of her own party ahead of a potentially difficult 2026 reelection bid. ...
