Newsom Begins Push to Redraw California Congressional Map (1)

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday kicked off a drive for a Nov. 4 special election to ask voters to redraw the state’s congressional districts to offset potential Republican gains from a round of redistricting in Texas.

“We have got to recognize the cards that have been dealt,” Newsom said.

The governor’s comments at a Los Angeles event with fellow Democratic state legislators and congressional members marked the start of what will be an unusual, whirlwind campaign across the state as they seek to remove five GOP US House members with the proposed new districts.
