California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday kicked off a drive for a Nov. 4 special election to ask voters to redraw the state’s congressional districts to offset potential Republican gains from a round of redistricting in Texas.

The governor’s comments at a Los Angeles event with fellow Democratic state legislators and congressional members marked the start of what will be an unusual, whirlwind campaign across the state as they seek to remove five GOP US House members with the proposed new districts.
Newsom offered President
