North Carolina GOP Finalizes Map Targeting Vulnerable Democrat

North Carolina’s Republican legislature gave final approval to new congressional district lines that increase their party’s chances of wresting an additional House seat from Democrats in the 2026 election.

The state House on Wednesday cleared a map (SB 249) that endangers two-term Democratic Rep. Don Davis by converting his northeastern 1st District, one of the nation’s premier swing districts, into a Republican-leaning constituency. The state Senate passed the proposal Tuesday, and Gov. Josh Stein (D) isn’t permitted to veto it.
