Nuclear Commission Nears Full Strength with Nieh Confirmation

The agency regulating nuclear energy safety is one step closer to a full slate of commissioners after the Senate confirmed Ho Nieh on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump‘s nominee for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission received bipartisan support from senators in a 66-32 vote. With Nieh’s confirmation, the NRC—a key agency in the administration’s plans to boost nuclear energy to meet growing electricity demands—now has four of its five commissioner slots filled. Trump has also nominated Douglas Weaver to serve as an NRC commissioner.
