NY Budget Delay Nears 15-Year Record as Talks Hit Key Stage (2)

A key New York lawmaker said Thursday that the state legislature could approve by the end of next week a new budget expected to top $252 billion.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and the leaders of the state Senate and Assembly are trying to an agreement on a spending plan. They must first resolve their differences on items such as public safety, taxes, and how to spend billions of dollars of taxpayer money. Hochul earlier Thursday signed an eighth budget extension to keep state government funded through April 29.
