A lack of tech expertise has prevented New York from conducting a legally required study of the growing cryptocurrency mining industry before the Friday expiration of a state moratorium on some of the sector’s activities.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation couldn’t locate sufficient experts to compile a study showing exactly how much cryptomining has occurred in New York, a top hub for the activity in recent years, Sean Mahar, the department’s interim commissioner, said in a Thursday letter to lawmakers obtained by Bloomberg Government.
