New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday signed legislation to place additional restrictions on how government agencies use artificial intelligence.
The measure (S.B. 7599) approved by lawmakers aims to require entities ranging from law enforcement to local school districts to publicly disclose details about the systems they use and steps taken to prevent bias in decision-making. It wasn’t immediately clear whether lawmakers agreed to later revise the legislation in exchange for her signing it, a move Hochul has previously made with politically contentious bills.
