New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday signed a four-day budget extension to keep the state government open as she negotiates tax and policy items with lawmakers over a final spending plan expected to exceed $252 billion.
The Democratic governor, state Senate and Assembly remain divided on key issues addressing public safety and rising costs of living that have stalled progress on other parts of the budget for the fiscal year that began on April 1. Both chambers approved the extension Thursday.
