Trial lawyers are pushing back against New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposal to revamp the state’s auto insurance claims process, arguing it lets carriers off the hook from paying customers on time.

Hochul (D) proposed in her Jan. 13 State of the State address to increase the time frame insurers have to report scams, make it easier for carriers to allege fraud in court, and limit some payouts for drivers engaged in criminal behavior at the time of the crash.
