NY Worker AI Protections to Sunset in 2028 Under Hochul Changes

A New York measure intended to limit how state agencies use a broad array of artificial intelligence systems has transformed into a law that will temporarily protect public employees from replacement by the technology.

Workplace protections will expire in July 2028 and agencies will no longer face the looming legal requirement to maintain human review over a wide range of automated decision-making, according to draft legislation lawmakers aim to pass early next year in exchange for Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) approving the measure (S.B. 7543B).
