Offshore Wind District Democrat Says Trump Hurts Permitting Deal

President Donald Trump’s attacks on renewable energy projects remain one of the biggest obstacles to a bipartisan permitting overhaul getting through Congress, Rep. Seth Magaziner said Wednesday.

Democrats who are “open-minded on permitting reform” and have been working with Republicans on improving the federal process, fear Trump won’t honor clean energy aspects of any bipartisan deal, the Rhode Island Democrat told Bloomberg Government in an exclusive interview.

If Trump refuses to act on renewable energy investments the two parties agree to, then Democrats “look like a bunch of fools,” said Magaziner, who sits on the House Natural Resources Committee.
