Ohio Races Emerge as Unlikely Battleground for Border Politics

Ohio Republicans have turned their eyes hundreds of miles to the south as they weigh who to support in primary contests Tuesday.

Despite seeking to win over voters who live just across Lake Erie from Canada, GOP candidates and their multimillion-dollar backers have zeroed in on security along the border with Mexico as the top issue in the state’s March 19 primaries. The focus makes Ohio the first statewide test of how migration politics will factor in to the 2024 elections as voters increasingly rank it as their top priority in November.
