Oklahoma Republicans Must Decide Fast on Mullin’s Senate Seat

A mad dash may ensue for the Senate seat in Oklahoma that Markwayne Mullin will soon vacate to become President Donald Trump’s new homeland security secretary.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) will appoint an interim successor to succeed Mullin (R), who Trump said will join his cabinet March 31. Mullin could serve as acting secretary if not yet confirmed by the Republican-majority Senate.

Mullin, who won a special Senate election in 2022, was up for reelection this year and planned to seek a full six-year term. The June 16 Republican primary will be the contest to watch in a state ...
