No Black House Republicans Seeking Reelection as Owens Exits (1)

Utah Rep. Burgess Owens will join the more than 30 House Republicans retiring this year, he announced Wednesday, meaning not a single incumbent Black Republican will seek reelection in the chamber.

Owens was first elected in 2020, when he ousted a Democrat in the Utah district that contains much of Salt Lake City. The former professional football player serves on both the Education and Workforce and Transportation panels, and he lost an internal election to chair the Education committee for the 119th Congress.
