Pakistan Declares ‘Open War’ With Afghanistan After Clashes (3)

Pakistan declared “open war” with Afghanistan in a major escalation in fighting between the two countries, as both sides carried out cross-border strikes reaching as far as the Afghan capital and leaving at least dozens dead.

Pakistan’s military said it conducted “swift and brutal” strikes at military centers in Kabul, as well as in the border provinces, of Kandahar, Paktia, Nangarhar and Paktika, military spokesman Lt. General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said at a news conference Friday. The strikes killed 274 Taliban militants, while Pakistan lost 12 soldiers, Chaudhry said.
