Pan Am Railroad Deal Before Regulator Draws Pushback From Union

A railroad union is protesting a deal involving two Maine freight lines it argues would endanger the corporate descendant of Pan American World Airways.

A deal announced last month before the Surface Transportation Board would allow CSX Corp. to lease the freight lines to TransloadX Railroad Co. Critics says approval would endanger union jobs and violate a 2022 decision by the federal regulator that allowed CSX to acquire Pan Am Systems Inc., which had acquired the branding of the defunct airline. The STB will likely decide the matter in the coming weeks.
