Groups representing US airlines and the travel industry are calling on Congress to reopen the Department of Homeland Security so that airport screeners can get paid, warning that a continued lapse in funding could lead to disruptions during the busy spring break travel period.
“Unfortunately, a lot of this could come to a head just as spring break is coming on board,” Chris Sununu, president of Airlines for America and former Republican governor of New Hampshire, told reporters Thursday.
His comments followed a press conference on the ongoing DHS shutdown and its impact on Transportation Security Administration agents.
