House lawmakers will spend the dog days of summer scattered across the country, fine tuning their arguments about President Donald Trump’s mega tax and spending law that could define the 2026 elections.
The August recess will provide the first extended period back in members’ districts since Trump signed the package — which continues tax breaks, injects a huge amount of border enforcement spending, and makes cuts to social programs such as Medicaid.
