The Department of Education proposed a rule Friday to carry out an expansion of Pell Grants for short-term workforce training programs, coming even as the low-income student aid initiative faces a shortfall of billions of dollars.
Students would gain access to Pell Grant funds for enrollment for job training typically provided at community and technical colleges. The proposed rule will publish March 9 and public comments are open until April 8.
