Pentagon Asks US Congress for Name Change to ‘Department of War’

The Pentagon is formally asking the US Congress to legally authorize its “Department of War” name change.

In a legislative proposal sent to Congress this month, the Pentagon seeks to codify the new name into law. Only Congress can authorize the name change. Both congressional Republicans and Democrats have been skeptical about the new name and it isn’t a given lawmakers will officially back it.

“The revision to the designation of the Department serves as a fundamental reminder of the importance and reverence of our core mission, to fight and win wars,” the Pentagon said in its legislative proposal justification. ...
