Pentagon Criticizes Aviation Safety Bill Ahead of House Vote (1)

The Department of Defense is raising last-minute concerns about a Senate-approved aviation safety bill that faces a House vote this week, the latest in a battle within the GOP over response to a deadly plane crash last year.

Aircraft nationwide would have to deploy safety equipment called Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast by the end of 2031 under the bipartisan ROTOR Act (S. 2503) Senate Commerce Committee Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced the bill, which passed his chamber in December, to help prevent incidents like a 2025 mid-air collision near Washington that killed 67 people.
