Pentagon’s Munition Stockpile Under Scrutiny by House Panel

The Pentagon would be compelled to provide quarterly reports to Congress on current munitions stockpiles, under a draft $1.15 trillion fiscal year 2027 defense authorization bill.

The provision came from the top House Armed Services Committee Democrat Rep. Adam Smith (Wash.) as part of a set of amendments approved by voice vote during the panel’s marathon markup Thursday.

Lawmakers are increasingly concerned that the US has been eating through its critical munitions at a rapid clip during Iran war operations.
