Permitting Talks Imperiled by Trump Actions, Lead Senators Warn

The leaders of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee are starting to worry that a permitting overhaul is running out of time to pass.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), the committee’s chair, said Congress is facing a time crunch to get to a bipartisan deal that would speed up the environmental permitting process to get energy projects up and running faster.

“By the August break, I just think that is much more of a golden opportunity,” Capito said during a Wednesday panel at the Politico’s Energy Summit in Washington, noting the Senate is also building on House-passed permitting bills. ...
