EV, Hybrid Cars Face New Fees in Bill Advanced by Panel (1)

House Republicans advanced legislation Wednesday that would force electric vehicle owners to pay a $250 per year fee — an increase from the original proposal after backlash forced a fee on gasoline-powered cars out of the bill.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced the bill in a 36-30 vote along party lines as part of its sweeping GOP tax and spending package. It would claw back funds for green transportation programs while providing new spending to air traffic control.
