Senators confirmed Andrew Puzder on Saturday to be US ambassador to the European Union, as lawmakers slowly grind through weekend votes absent a broader agreement to confirm President Donald Trump’s picks.
Members voted 53-44 to confirm Puzder. It’s a far better outcome for the former CKE Restaurants CEO than his first time seeking confirmation. Puzder was Trump’s pick to lead the Labor Department in 2017 and withdrew his candidacy after acknowledging he employed an undocumented housekeeper, and after domestic-abuse allegations resurfaced from a prior divorce.
The vote does not represent any progress toward a deal on other nominations.
