Republican senators are striking a warm tone towards President-elect Donald Trump’s pick of physician and television personality Mehmet Oz to serve as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services chief.
Key committee leaders and moderates touted Oz’s medical background and previous proposals to expand Medicare’s private options as experience to help lead the agency that offers health coverage to more than 160 million patients. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), his 2022 Senate opponent, also expressed willingness to support his nomination.
