Republicans Break Democratic Hold on Key State Legislatures (1)

Republicans’ 2024 winning streak extended to state legislatures, as they broke Democratic Party dominance in Michigan and Minnesota while successfully defending their majorities in other states.

Those downballot results will give the GOP more sway over issues as varied as taxes, voting rights, abortion and even artificial intelligence.

Democrats will be able to show a contrast on those issues with their approaches in the states where they’ll maintain dominance. Some party leaders are already talking about ways they could use state laws to resist potential Republican policies coming out of Washington on topics like energy and immigration.
