Republicans Jettison Biden Gas Water Heater Efficiency Standards

House Republicans Thursday voted to repeal a Biden-era rule mandating more stringent efficiency standards for certain consumer water heaters.

The measure (H.J.Res. 20), which passed on a 221-198 vote, is the latest win for Republicans who have used the Congressional Review Act to target many of the previous administration’s rules designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through fees, tougher standards, and more regulations.

The House on Wednesday voted to overturn a separate Biden rule (H.J.Res. 35) imposing a fee on companies emitting excess methane. The Senate is expected to pass that measure Thursday afternoon.
