Roy Threatens to Force Vote on Stock-Trading Ban If House Stalls

House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) said he’s pushing for a ban on House lawmakers trading stocks “come hell or high water.”

Roy is among a cohort of House members who have sought to restrict their colleagues’ ability to trade in response to concerns they misuse their access to nonpublic information. House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (R-Wis.) is advancing restrictions on stock buying with the blessing of GOP leaders, which Roy said he expects to get a vote, but it falls short of some members’ demands that lawmakers also divest their existing portfolios.
