Rubio Affordable Lunches Bill Includes Physical Activity Mandate

A measure tying physical activity requirements to free and reduced-pricelunch has been introduced in the Senate, with the intent of proposing the bill as an amendment to the upcoming farm bill.

The bill, which was exclusively obtained by Bloomberg Government, would require elementary school students participating in the National School Lunch Program—which provides free and reduced lunches for low-income students—to participate in physical education or recess periods in order to qualify for the program. The measure would require students to participate in no less than 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
