Senate $1.15 Trillion Defense Bill Blocks Europe Troop Cuts (1)

The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved an annual $1.15 trillion defense authorization measure that would prohibit the reduction of US military forces in Europe and would authorize $780 million for Ukraine through 2029.

The panel approved the measure 18-9 behind closed doors late Wednesday, according to congressional officials who briefed reporters on the measure but asked for anonymity.

The congressional officials did not address the Defense Department name change sought by Trump and and Pete Hegseth, but Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), a senior member of the committee, said that the panel backed the new moniker ‘Department of War.’
