Senate Advances Housing Bill in Effort to Tackle Affordability

Senators moved forward on a sweeping, bipartisan package aimed at addressing the cost of housing as affordability becomes a potent issue in the upcoming midterm elections.

The Senate voted 84-6 Monday evening on an initial procedural motion to advance long-sought legislation to increase the supply of housing, which has widespread support but has run into divisions between the chambers. The bipartisan pair of senators with jurisdiction over the issue released an updated version of their legislation just ahead of the vote, which includes provisions from the House-passed package.
