Senate Armed Services Unveils $1.15 Trillion Defense Measure

June 16, 2026, 5:29 PM UTC

The Senate Armed Services Committee has filed the annual $1.15 trillion defense authorization measure that would prohibit the reduction of US military forces in Europe and authorize $780 million for Ukraine through 2029.

The panel approved the measure 18-9 behind closed doors last Wednesday, with many panel Democrats voting against the bill because of the high topline authorization and renaming of the Department of Defense to the Department of War.

The move to file the bill indicates that Senate leaders may consider the measure soon.
