Senate Blocks Bid to Reverse EPA Rejection of Colorado Haze Plan

Senators turned back a Democratic effort to override an EPA decision blocking Colorado’s plan to improve visibility at national parks by shuttering some coal plants.

The Senate rejected, 52-46, a motion to take up legislation (S. J. Res. 139) from Sen. Mike Bennet (D-Colo.) that would have disapproved of the Environmental Protection Agency’s January rejection of the state’s regional haze plan.

Bennet, who is running for governor, forced the vote under the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to pass resolutions disapproving of agency rules with simple majorities. The law gives the minority party tools to force votes ...
